Although Tommy has experience in wood and metal work dating back to 2000, his idea for Allotrope wasn’t born until 2018, while working on his first of two gut rehabs. At the time, Tommy was a CPA by day, but he uncovered a clear need (and his passion) for custom fabrication by night—while working with the existing structures to maximize the utility and beauty of the space for his family.

Allotropes are different structural forms of the same element, where the atoms combine in different ways so at the same temperature and pressure they can exist in different forms (unlike H2O). The most striking example of an Allotrope is Carbon in the forms of diamond and graphite; however, humans’ discovery of Iron allotropes unlocked the potential for metalworking and building structures in the modern age. While the name Allotrope speaks literally to metalwork, it also speaks to our commitment to a flexible approach, innovative problem solving, craft, and collaboration to unlock boundless possibilities.

According to the Merriam-Webster, Allotrope is pronounced, /ˈaləˌtrōp/ or al·lo·trope. But, we say it like this, Aloe (like the plant) + Trope.
